Dear All,

We have an Olympus IX81 with a motorized stage Prior Proscan II, microscopy
control unit IX2-USB and Olympus Laser- Based Autofocus System (IX2-ZDC).

The camera is a Hamamatsu EM-CCD C9100-02, controlled with A3472-07.

We are using this unit for multi-location, multi-time microscopy ~30
locations for ~150 acquisitions per experiment.

What software and operating system do people recommend to control this
setup?

Is there anyone with a similar setup who can make software recommendations?

Thank you and Happy New Year,

Bernhard Kuhn

I concur. that is where things are heading, and your only bet if you want
to squeeze out everything your system can do

I always recommend linux as otherwise everything seems to be about handling
your virus infected windows computer. unfortunately I don't think your
hardware is supported on this OS yet (please put some pressure on olympus)

Bernhard:

A couple of other options to follow up on.  Image Pro Plus (www.mediacy.com) does directly control the IX-81, The Prior Stages, and has very flexible macro programing controls fro allowing the slide scanning.  I do not know about the Hamamatsu interface.

Secondly, Slide-Book ( www.intelligent-imaging.com) will also control the IX-81.  We have an older copy running deconvolution on one of our IX-81's.

Hi All,
I have also been trying to control an IX81 with almost the identical hardware to Bernhard (Prior stage, ZDC etc) using Micromanager. However, I have been unable to get our computer (and Micromanager) to successfully talk with the Olympus control box via the serial port. I suspect the serial port settings. If anyone has done this successfully, can you please let me/us know what settings you used or what has worked best.

Many thanks.

I had trouble with the IX81 once and solved it by increasing the timeout
(in the hardware config). does this help?

my timeout setting was probably higher than listed here:

Daer all,

We are working with Andor software and this will work fine, after having
some additional back-up/support.

Hi Paul,

It can be challenging to get hardware to cooperate!  However, there are many labs that are using Micro-Manager to operate an Olympus IX81.  If you still have trouble after increasing the serial port timeout as suggested by Johan, please use the menu entry "Help"->"Report a Problem".  This will give me a chance to figure out what is going on and help you make it work.

Also, the Micro-Manager mailing list ( https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/micro-manager-general ) may be a more useful forum for issues such as these.

Best,

Nico
